                                               Mammals   This is a group of vertebrates that are: 1. Mostly covered in fur. 2. Feed their young with milk from mammary glands. 3.   Vertebrates Animals that have a backbone are called  vertebrates . The backbone is is a column of bones that supports the body, and also protects the spinal cord. Therefore any animal with a spinal column or backbone is a vertebrate . There are 5 groups of vertebrates .  They are: 1. Mammals 2. Birds 3. Reptiles 4. Amphibians 5. Fishes.
